The Friends of Münzenberg Castle and Town Association (Freundeskreis Burg und Stadt Münzenberg e. V.) invites you to experience the gripping and tragic story of Jacob Wagner—told through a compelling audio guide. On a historical walking tour through Münzenberg, you will follow the traces of an 18th-century criminal case that culminated in Wagner’s execution in May 1742. This was the last execution carried out at the Münzenberg gallows. Why he was the last, how the judicial system of the time functioned, and much more can be discovered at the original locations.

The audio guide takes you back in time, leading you through the streets of Münzenberg, past significant sites such as the town hall and the old city wall, and on to the execution site outside the town. The total length of the tour is approximately 2 km without visiting the gallows, and around 4 km including the execution site. A barrier-free (accessible) version is also available.

To date, there is a lack of suitable written and tourist-oriented city guide information in Münzenberg that adequately informs residents and visitors—without guided tours—about significant monuments, buildings, and historical events.

The project idea aims to engage those interested in Münzenberg with fascinating historical aspects of law and jurisdiction. The locations of a true historical case are to be made vividly accessible during a walk, using a tour map or flyer in combination with audio-supported station descriptions. In this way, participants gain compelling insights into the period, the history of the town of Münzenberg, and the lives of its inhabitants at the time.

As an overarching goal, the project seeks to further develop the tourism activities of the town of Münzenberg and the Friends of Münzenberg Castle and Town Association (Freundeskreis Burg und Stadt Münzenberg e. V.), while at the same time promoting the economic development of the local hospitality and accommodation sector.

The project can also be classified under the strategic objective of “Appreciative cultural work.” As an association, we aim to further develop and enhance the leisure-oriented and cultural infrastructure within the urban area of Münzenberg, promote socio-cultural offerings, and particularly encourage the active involvement of specific target groups as well as intergenerational exchange.

In addition, the project makes a significant educational contribution to the understanding of the rule of law and fundamental rights. It clearly illustrates for participants the ruthless structure of the authoritarian state in stark contrast to our modern constitutional state.
